Somewhere in Humboldt are some shocked thieves (or some happy vegetarians) who came by pounds of organic, fresh tofu and gallons of soy milk by robbing The Tofu Shop’s delivery van.
In the five minutes it took our driver to use the restroom at Little River State Park at Clam Beach, someone helped themselves to buckets of bulk tofu and coolers full of soy milk.
Let us know if you see any happy and healthy barbecuers grilling organic tofu on Clam Beach. And beware leaving vegetarian picnic items unattended.
The Tofu Shop recently partnered with Natural Decadence Bakery to supply organic, silken tofu for their delicious gluten-free pies.
Natural Decadence is a gluten-free bakery in Humboldt County. Find their products locally at the North Coast Coops, Eureka Natural Foods, and Wildberries Marketplace. Find them throughout Northern California in 25 Whole Foods Markets.
Their Chocolate Cream-less and Lemon Meringue-less pies are now made with Tofu Shop organic silken tofu.
It’s our first foray into making silken tofu. We’re excited about the quality and hope to make it available to others interested in organic, artisan silken tofu.
The Tofu Shop is very pleased to announce that our score on the Organic Soy Scorecard recently jumped from four to five beans, a jump from the rank of “Excellent” to the highest possible tier of “Outstanding”.
In 2009, The Cornucopia Institute, a Wisconsin based advocacy organization, released its study “Behind the Bean: The Heroes and Charlatans of the Natural and Organic Soy Foods Industry.” The report includes an Organic Soy Scorecard that ranks many of the country’s soy foods makers.
The Tofu Shop ranks so high because we use 100% organic ingredients and do all of our production in-house, using organic, non-genetically modified soybeans from North American growers. We were also commended for going the extra mile to use organic, fair-trade cocoa in our chocolate soy milk, for our waste reduction efforts, and for full and open disclosure to Cornucopia’s research inquiries.
The Tofu Shop prides itself on using organic, whole foods ingredients and handcrafting our organic, artisan tofu, soy milks and deli products in small batches with absolutely no possibility of hexane contamination. Recent news stories have uncovered concern about this chemical contamination during soybean processing for corporate so-called “natural” soy foods producers.
In June we announced that we’re changing all of our products to gluten free. These are the latest.
- Breakfast Sausage
- Vegie Burgers
- Smoked Tofu Spread
- Humboldt Sloppy Joe
Last month we announced a new product, “Humboldt Original Green Sauerkraut”…the first in our new line of “Humboldt Krauts and Pickles”. We are very happy to introduce two more organic, artisan raw sauerkrauts. Look for Purple Panacea and Supa Spicy Krauts at the Arcata and Eureka Coop’s, Wildberries, and Eureka Natural Foods.
Purple Panacea, which is deliciously and nutritiously deep purple, is made from red cabbage, carrots, beets, parsley, garlic and salt.
Bursting with flavor, Supa Spice is green cabbage, carrots, beets, radishes, assorted peppers, garlic, ginger, and salt. Our organic krauts are probiotic…naturally fermented in small artisan batches, so they’re rich with beneficial enzymes and lactobacilli.
We’re proud to use locally grown ingredients when available. Thanks to Willow Creek Farms and Rain Frog Farm.
